Gmail will introduce new information in every email received by its users. There will be a brief summary to assist in understanding the content of the email. The AI Summaries feature utilizes Gemini AI technology. This capability was previously available, but users had to tap a specific button labeled “Summarize this Email” to condense the entire email.
Now, the feature can be used automatically. Ars Technica notes that it is unclear how many emails will be summarized in the future, as reported on Monday (June 2, 2025). The summary will be positioned at the top of the email, formatted as bullet points to outline the content.
AI Summaries are available for users of the Gmail application on both iOS and Android. Unfortunately, not all users can access this feature. Ars Technica states that automatic summaries will only be available to paid Workspace users and AI Premium subscribers.
There is no information on whether standard Gmail users will receive the AI Summaries feature in the future. This AI Summaries capability is currently only available for emails in English. However, it may take up to 15 days before it can be implemented for everyone. Additionally, Google has not clarified whether AI Summaries will also be launched for Gmail users or not.
